I remember a year ago, when people on my LiveJournal friends list were all talking about a pilot for this little show called Glee. It was a huge risk. It cost a ton to make, so Fox was taking a chance on it. After a bit, I watched the Pilot, and was blown away.
Fast forward like, a year, and now everybody and their mother's dog watches Glee. Not that I mind popularity; a good thing could be celebrated and deserves recognition. I haven't seen a TV series take people by storm in the same way Glee has before. The actors are talented. The music selection is great. It's fun and uplifting and sometimes incredibly moving and profound. It's a great show that covers a huge swatch of people, everyone from pre-teen girls to dads to famous actors to college boys. I enjoy that.
Then the first CD came out. Okay, great, I loved their cover of Beyonce. But then the second CD came out a month later. Then the DVDs... in multiple volumes. Before the season was even half over. A billion billboards and ads and previews. And Fox's annoying plugs to the actors' live Twitter during the show. Now, new CDs come out every week. College girls are like, "oh my God, I love that song!" when they hear Don't Stop Believing, but when asked if they like Journey, they're confused.
But then the crowning achievement: Fox renews Glee for a THIRD season, despite it not even being through with its first.
This shit needs to stop. CEASE FIRE. ABORT MISSION. The fact that Fox, The Network Where Shows Go To Die, renewed a show for a third season before its first is even over.
Let that one sink in for a bit. Let's all pause to remember how much faith it had in Joss Whedon. Twice.
Now I just seriously want to sock someone in the solar plexus when I hear yet another Glee autotuned cover of a popular or once-popular song. And that's yet another kernel of shit when it comes to the madness Glee has become: if these actors are so talented, why autotune their voices within an inch of their lives? I'm not even a music enthusiast and I can hear the robotic tinge to the songs.
Don't make me be totally dunzo with Glee, Fox. You're the one doing this to me!
